KATI BASTI

Kati Basti is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that involves the application of warm herbal oil on the lower back, particularly in the region around the lumbar or sacral spine. This treatment is often used to alleviate various musculoskeletal and neurological conditions affecting the lower back and is known for its therapeutic benefits.

The word “Kati” refers to the area around the waist, and “Basti” means a container or retaining structure. In this context, Basti is a well or container created using a ring of dough made from black gram flour (urad dal) or other materials, which is placed on the lower back. Warm medicated oil is then poured into this reservoir and allowed to stay for a specific duration. The warm oil helps to relax the muscles, improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and nourish the tissues in the lower back.

Kati Basti is often recommended for conditions like lower back pain, sciatica, lumbar spondylosis, herniated discs, and other disorders related to the lower back and spine. It is believed to balance the Vata dosha in Ayurveda, which is associated with pain and stiffness in the body.
