Ahara (Diet)

Ahara refers to diet or food. Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine and wellness that originated in India, and it places great importance on the role of diet in maintaining health and preventing disease. According to Ayurveda, the food we consume not only nourishes our physical body but also has a profound impact on our overall well-being, including our mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Ayurveda categorizes food into three main types, known as the Trigunas, which are based on their qualities and effects on the body:

  1. Sattvic (सात्विक)
  2. Rajasic (राजसिक)
  3. Tamasic (तामसिक)

Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of balancing these three qualities in your diet to maintain optimal health. The ideal diet for an individual is determined by their unique constitution, known as their Prakriti, and their current state of health, known as their Vikriti. these factors to recommend a personalized diet and lifestyle plan.

Additionally, Ayurveda recommends mindful eating practices, such as eating in a calm and peaceful environment, chewing food thoroughly, and being in tune with your body’s hunger and fullness cues.
